Meet our Instructor
Yvonne Brandt

Yvonne had a magical childhood sailing with her dad and on her own sailing dinghy while dad puttered around on the family boat.
She grew up, went in the USAF and had a career in aerospace safety. Meanwhile, Yvonne and her family worked their way toward their cruising dream.
Eventually they bought and refit a 70’s sloop. They sold possessions, took their two children out of 6th and 8th grade and made their way south from the Chesapeake to the Bahamas for 10 months.
After return to land life, Yvonne continued sailing with Sea Scouts and eventually, got her captains license and ASA certifications. Yvonne has been teaching the ASA curriculum since 2017.
She also skippers for USPatriotsailing.org which is a nonprofit that takes veterans yacht racing. Yvonne is loving teaching sailing, deliveries, charter work and racing but is also trying to do what she can for the health of the ocean.
Yvonne is grateful to be on the water as a 2nd profession and wants to leave the ocean as healthy as she found it as a child. She hopes to share sailing with as many as possible and inspire a navy of ocean conservationists who like to have a good time appreciating the gifts of life.
Why Tip Your Instructor
At LTD Sailing, we are striving to offer you the best sailing school experience in the Caribbean. We hand pick our instructors who work hard to ensure you learn lots, sail even more and most importantly - enjoy yourself along the way.
I often get asked how much students should tip their instructors and even why students should tip their instructors at all. LTD Sailing pays your instructor to teach sailing. You aren’t tipping them for that. The reason you should consider tipping your instructor is if they went above and beyond – if they not only taught you to sail but also gave you the experience of a lifetime.
If you think your instructor has gone above and beyond this week, a gratuity is highly appreciated. The industry standard is 15% - 20% and tipping is, as always, at your discretion.
