Meet Our Instructors
At LTD Sailing, we are striving to offer you the best sailing school experience in the Caribbean. We hand pick our instructors who work hard to ensure you learn lots, sail even more and most importantly - enjoy yourself along the way.
I often get asked how much students should tip their instructors and even why students should tip their instructors at all. LTD Sailing pays your instructor to teach sailing. You aren’t tipping them for that. The reason you should consider tipping your instructor is if they went above and beyond – if they not only taught you to sail but also gave you the experience of a lifetime.
If you think your instructor has gone above and beyond this week, a gratuity is highly appreciated. The industry standard is 15% - 20% and tipping is, as always, at your discretion.
Joe Proctor

Growing up, I was lucky to always live near the ocean, Atlantic, Pacific, and even the Gulf of Mexico. Beach life was woven into the fabric of my childhood, and when I was ten, I had my first sailing experience thanks to family friends who brought their Hobie Cat to the beach. From the moment the sails caught wind, I was hooked, captivated by the raw power of the ocean and the intimate connection to nature it offered. That sense of possibility beyond the horizon left a lasting impression.
Over the years, I dabbled in recreational boating, mostly making unforgettable memories with friends and family, though I never felt entirely confident behind the helm. That changed in 2012 when I enrolled in my first structured sailing course. I was finally ready to explore the cruising dream that had quietly grown inside me. With professional guidance, I unlocked the “secrets” of boat handling and navigation, and that newfound empowerment deepened my passion.
Since then, sailing has become more than just a personal journey, it's become something I feel compelled to share. Today, through a bit of luck and a lot of love for the sea, I’ve found myself in the position to share lessons I have gathered-both from my own journey and from the wisdom learned from fellow salty sailors.
